This past week, I moved my business after five wonderful years in our old location — just a quarter mile down the street, but a big change nonetheless. I truly loved our previous space, especially being right next to the post office — a dream setup for someone who ships packages daily. But the building owner is renovating it for his own business, so it was time for us to move on.
I’m genuinely excited about our new space. It’s larger, more open, and everything is conveniently on one level. Still, the move has been no small task. After years of accumulating tools, supplies, and inventory, packing it all up — and then unpacking it again — has been exhausting. We’ve had to sort through everything, make tough decisions, part with items, and carefully transport others to their new home.
Not everything will make the move perfectly. Some things will get damaged. Others will go missing. And I know I’ll go to look for something and have no idea where I put it. The process has been stressful and physically draining — and it gave me a renewed appreciation for what our clients go through when downsizing.
It’s funny how much easier it is to manage this process for someone else than for yourself. Going through this move reminded me of the emotional weight and decision fatigue our clients often carry. It’s a powerful reminder to stay compassionate and patient.
Most of all, it deepened my gratitude for the trust our clients place in us. Being invited into someone’s life during such a big transition is no small thing — and having now walked a bit more in their shoes, I feel even more honored to be part of that journey.
